Organisational Memoirs

Businesses are born, grow and adapt. They connect the stories of many people from the founder to those who continue to work for the future. They develop in a unique way with their own cultures and identities. Over the years many family businesses and larger firms have ceased to exist, and all that was special about them can be forgotten. Organisational or Company MemoirsThese histories are of great value to social and industrial historians.

Stories from the past can inspire us today. They shed light on the social fabric of the country and increase our understanding of organisations.

There are so many skills that are dying out. How will we know what it was like to make goods by hand unless we ask those who have done it? What was it like to work in factories in the early years of the last century? What was it like before computers?

It is not just businesses and firms that have histories and fascinating stories to tell. Any form of organisation whether it be voluntary, social, not for profit or a charity, have their own place in our social history. Some, like The Women's League of Health and Beauty, are 'one-offs' with no comparable organisation to be found across the globe. Now called The Fitness League, it is a charity which has survived seventy five years. Its creation and the strength of character needed to survive for so long is all down to its remarkable founder Mary Bagot Stack.

A Charity can raise much needed funds and awareness of its work through the publication and sales of its 'lifestory'.

Proceeds from the sales of 'In a League of Their Own' are helping the charity to raise much needed funds to help in the training of new teachers. For any charity, an account of its origins with first hand accounts of helpers and members can be both an important historical document and a valuable fund raiser.
